Oriental Mindoro is famous for the beaches of Puerto Galera. Puerto Galera is one of the Philippines’ best dive areas. Set within a panoramic harbor of coves and mountains are beaches such as Aninuan, Balete, Boquete Coco, Hondura, La Laguna, Long, Sabang, Talipanan and White. Rich marine life can be found at Medio Island. Other attractions include Tamaraw Falls and the Excavation Museum of excavated pottery. The gentle Mangyans are the original inhabitants of Mindoro who now live in the uplands; tribal communities can be found in Pinamalayan and Mansalay. The capital of Calapan celebrates the Sanduguan Festival every May. To the south is the, 2,586-meter-high Mount Halcon, the country’s fourth highest peak. Naujan has an unusual church within the ruins of an older church and scenic Lake Naujan.
